The “Crying Bear” adds a compassionate touch that resonates
well with the two year-old occupant of this room.

Murals, the most ancient
art form, are often our only record of ancient civilizations.
The trompe l'oeil, a special form of mural technique was invented by the
Romans
and perfected by the understanding and application of perspective during
the Renaissance.
Ryder's
style, primarily characterized as realistic impressionism, is intent on
capturing nature’s infinite dance of color and light. His perceptive eye
for
architectural detail is particularly evident in his trompe l'oeils.
The trompe l'oeil is a special kind of mural
requiring a need for understanding
and applying perspective in such a way as to “trick the eye”. Done
properly,
the trompe l'oeil creates the illusion that the scene is not only three
dimensional,
but actually contiguous with the surrounding architecture.

Dinning Room's trompe l'oeil
This trompe l'oeil was designed to remediate a claustrophobic mood in this small dining room. The cat, a family pet, was included to add an element of lightness and humor to this otherwise formal rendition.
